Animal-assisted therapy, where an animal such as a dog becomes a basic part of a person's treatment, is a controversial treatment for some symptoms. A 2007 meta-analysis found that animal-assisted therapy is associated with a moderate improvement in autism spectrum symptoms. Reviews of published dolphin-assisted therapy (DAT) studies have found important methodological flaws and have concluded that there is no compelling scientific evidence that DAT is a legitimate therapy or that it affords any more than fleeting improvements in mood.

I am a mom of a young adult who I think would benefit from a service dog. But he is not so sure. It would be nice to talk to others who have service animals & how they have been helpful and opened up the community to their owner.

My daughter, age 3, who has autism has an autism assistance dog. We are looking to build the bond between her and the dog more, as it was not a quick bond, as we expected. Does anyone have any suggestions for building this relationship between a young girl and her partner?

I hope I belong; not really actively into this therapy, nor know of needing it. But, I love animals. About 3.5 years ago I was hospitalized for a while; someone brought some dogs into the hospital; I appreciated that. We have a cat.
